Team Loper Tohoku

[madeni] Saori Kitajima

 Hirosaki City, Aomori Prefecture

Normally, I produce and sell "Kogin-zashi," a traditional Aomori craft.

Kogin-zashi is a type of sashiko
During the domain era, it was a way to protect oneself from the harsh cold.
Women in Aomori sought "beauty" in it,
and competed to create patterns so breathtakingly beautiful.

Using these beautiful patterns,
I create items that are easy for daily use,
with colors and designs that blend into modern life.

When I encountered loper shoes,
I was so excited, my heart danced, thinking:
"If Kogin-zashi were combined with shoes, it would be truly unique!"
"What if I could create that from scratch with my own hands?!"

The time spent shaping things stitch by stitch,
is truly luxurious and a happy moment.

At madeni, in addition to regular loper shoes,
we can also offer workshops for Aomori-style loper shoes.

I would be delighted to share the warmth of handcrafted items
and exciting moments with you.
